Capital 3, Round 1 Catch-up and Round 11 Reviews

There was no match report last week so this one will include previous week’s games as well. Acacia Ridge faced New Farm and Toowong in the last two rounds and both times at home. It has been a bad couple of weekends for the boys, losing all 4 matches. First team and Ressies played similar matches against both of their opponents so in a way this report will take a different approach and analyse both round simultaneously.

The reserve team lost 3-2 and 6-2 to New Farm and Toowong respectively but it wasn’t the losses that stood out but rather the manner in which the games were played. After a decent start to the season and some very good performances, last two games were very poor by the standards the boys set earlier in the season. There was a lot of arguing, back chatting, explaining and talking in general and very little signs of running, flowing football and will to work hard. In both rounds the opposition looked more like a team and that made the difference.

The first team overall played two very good games but came away with nothing both times, losing 3-2 and 4-3. The boys created a lot of attacking opportunities and scored a few goals too but some lazy defending cost us the points in crucial moments of the game. In both games we have attacked, played some beautiful football, held large amounts of possession and dominated large periods of the games and yet lost. In both games we worked very hard to score goals but gave away goals with almost no resistance by conceding unnecessary penalties, free kicks, red cards and being too slow to organise when defending. We didn’t take responsibility against New Farm and were punished as a result. We didn’t learn from our mistakes and it is no surprise we got punished again against Toowong.

Next game sees us away at Virginia on Sunday the 17th. I am sure that everyone in the squad will have the right attitude, be motivated to train hard this week and get back to winning ways.
