First Team wins Capital 4 Grand Final

Acacia Ridge have won the Capital 4 league grand final with a 3-0 win over Tarragindi Tigers at Underwood Park. Both sets of fans turned out in big numbers and completely filled out the stand and seating areas around the field. This was the 5th time these two teams met this season with Ridge winning four times and Tarragindi winning once in the very first round of the season.

The Premiers started attacking from the get go and have scored within the first 5 minutes. Acacia Ridge have won a corner and the league’s top goalscorer Juan Jaimes was left unmarked at the back post where he rose above everyone else to smash home a header for a 1 nill lead. Next 30 minutes Acacia ridge pushed for a second and were rewarded when Juan Jaimes picked a loose ball in the midfield and put it through between Tarragindi defenders for David Medina to run onto who scored calmly past the keeper for 2-0. Remaining 10 minutes saw the Tigers try and pull one back with a few shots from outside the box but Ridge goalkeeper Roki Samardzija never looked troubled.

Second half started with Tarragindi pushing more and more players forward which allowed Acacia ridge to create more goal scoring opportunities which they kept missing due to a combination of poor finishing and good goalkeeping. At the hour mark Ridge’s midfielder Pablo Santamaria turned a couple of Tarragindi players and charged towards Tiger’s goal with seemingly the whole field to himself and support arriving on both sides he played the ball to Juan Jaimes who took a touch and smashed the ball past the keeper for the final 3-0. At this point the game was won for the boys and the rest of the game was played out in a much slower pace.

Final result: Acacia Ridge 3-0 Tarragindi Tigers

2 x Juan Jaimes

1 x David Medina

100 Goals and More

100 goals and more

Acacia Ridge have clinched Capital 4 premiership in some style today by putting 17 past The Lakes. After 3 weeks of no football due to bad weather, the boys were finally able to officially claim the prize. Despite the absence of Acacia Ridge’s top goals scorer Juan Jaimes they still put 17 past the Lakes goal keeper with David Medina and Gustavo Vargas netting 5 each, Santiago Rodriguez claiming 4 for himself, Martin Alvarez bagging 2 and Pablo Santamaria getting the last one. It is worth noting that this result brings the total tally of goals scored to 106 for the season despite Football Brisbane’s decision to not play the final round of the competition. This was also 9th clean sheet of the season for Roki Samardzija. The boys will be presented their well earned trophy when they meet the Tigers in the major semi-final match next weekend.
